PURPOSE
PURPOSE
For 27 years, the METCO Directors’ Association (MDA) awarded annual scholarships in memory of former Scituate Public Schools METCO Director Florence M. Howes. During that time, over $38,000 was awarded to METCO seniors to assist in their post-graduate academic endeavors. Upon the dissolution of the Florence M. Howes Scholarship, the MDA continued the tradition of honoring the tremendous commitment and hard work of deserving METCO youth by providing financial assistance through the METCO Directors’ Association Scholarship.
ELIGIBILITY
-
Participation in the METCO program in a METCO Directors’ Association member district

Maintenance of a cumulative 3.0 GPA (students with a 2.5 GPA and who have held leadership positions are eligible to apply)

Current and past involvement in community activism and volunteer work within human service organizations

Completion of admission process to accredited institutions of higher education

High school transcript (which should include semester 1 and/or first, second, third term grades)

Two letters of recommendation

Resume (including extracurricular activities and/or work history)
