Rivers

La Toya Rivers, M.Ed., became the Director of the Wayland METCO program in 2022. Prior to arriving in Wayland she served as the Weston METCO director and high school academic liaison (simultaneously) for 10 years. As a self-described "METCO Lifer," La Toya is a Needham METCO alumna and has held various METCO positions including serving as a METCO tutor, after-school program coordinator, second- and third-grade teacher in the METCO Inc. Summer Enrichment Program, and METCO academic advisor for grades 5 to 8 in the Lincoln Public Schools (2007-2013).

Rivers earned a Master’s in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Ethics, Social, and Political Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. She has completed Curry College’s Principal and Supervisory Licensure Program and the Diversity and Inclusion Cornell Certificate Program. She holds a Supervisor/Director License, Elementary 1-6 License, and Shelter English Immersion Administrator Endorsement. She is experienced in facilitating adult and student workshops on implicit bias, cultural awareness, anti-racist practices and bridges to understanding. She curates student educational tours as well, as she is a strong believer is experiential learning.

La Toya Rivers has devoted her professional career to using her experience and knowledge to assist METCO programs. She hopes to strengthen METCO student accomplishments, build METCO family engagement, and bolster METCO pride! As a proud resident of Dorchester, La Toya strives to have METCO families bring their whole selves to METCO districts and to be embraced and celebrated for the resource they are.
